  • Abstract
This Bulletin sicusses soil erosion in slopeland in Korea, where most upland soils have a high sand content and are highly vulnerable to erosion. It reviews the different rates of soil loss from erosion in relation to different cropping systems and degree of slope. Grass is suggested as the most suitable crop for slopelands with gradient of 15 -45,. The Bulletin discuses the benefits and disadvantages of the two main methods of pasture establishment used in Korea . In one, the soil is plowed and sown: in the other, the standing vegetation is cut close to the ground surface and the ground is oversown with pasture species. Both types of pasture need careful management, including appropriate stocking rates. Finally , it gives a case study of a cattle ranch established in an apline area of Korea and used for dairy production.
