77 Evaluation of Hot Corrosion and High Temperature Wear of Weld Cladding Ni Al Cr Coating on 310 Stainless Steel Saeede Pourmohamadi Saeede pourmohamadi@ma iut ac ir Date of Submission January 13 2015 Department of Materials Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Langusge Farsi Supervisors Assist Prof Masoud Atapour Supervisor Email M atapour@cc iut ac ir Prof Fakhrodin Ashrafizadeh Supervisor Email Ashrafif@cc iut ac ir Abstract In this study improvement of hot corrosion behavior of stainless steel 310 by applying NiAl and Cr modified NiAl coatings and wear characteristics of coatings at ambient temperature and 400 C were investigated For this purpose a mixture of nickel and aluminum powders with equal molar ratio with 0 5 10 and 20 at Cr and NiAl powders used as raw materials The prepared powders were placed on 310 stainless steel plate with thickness of 2 mm Weld cladding was performed by gas tungsten arc welding technique The morphology and chemical composition of the coatings were determined by Optical Microscopy OM Scanning Electron Microscopy SEM and X Ray Diffraction XRD Results showed that NiAl was in situ formed on all of the surfaces The iron containing phases have been produced as a result of dilution with the substrate It was found that the microstructure of cladded layer was refined by increasing the Cr amount Cyclic hot corrosion tests were performed at 900 C by furnace test The results of the hot corrosion experiments revealed that the hot corrosion resistance of 310 cladded samples was improved remarkably with increasing Cr to 10at The pin on disk wear experiments at ambient temperature revealed that the wear resistance of the cladded samples was enhanced by adding Cr and wear mechanism of uncoated and coated samples were different Also at temperature of 400 C due to formation of a compact oxide layer uncoated and coated samples exert more wear resistance than ambient temperature Key words stainless steel 310 NiAl coating weld cladding hot corrosion wear
