71 Effect of Hexamethylenetetramine Dicyanamide Cadmium Nanostructured particles on Gas separation properties of Polysulfone Membrane Elmira Tavasoli e tavasoli@ce iut ac ir Date of Submission Department of Chemical Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisors Morteza Sadeghi m sadeghi@cc iut ac irAbstract Membranetechnology is getting more attractiveprocessforthe oil petrochemicalandgasindustriesin comparison with otherknowntechnologiessuchasabsorptionanddistillationprocesses This is due to the facts that the membrane processes are lessexpensive and energy efficient and environmental friendly However some membrane propertiessuch as high selectivity and permeability limit their applications There is therefore need ofmembrane with high permeability and selectivity chemical mechanical and thermal stability causedevelopment in different base membrane In the present study the separation of oxygen nitrogen methane and carbon dioxide gases by using Polysulfone Hexamethylenetetramine DicyanamideCadmium PSF MOF nano composite different base membranes were investigated All differentbase PSF MOF membraneswere preparedbysolventevaporationmethodusingphaseseparation Theprepared nano composite membranes were characterized by Fourier transform infraredspectroscopy FTIR and Scanning electron microscopy SEM tests The obtained characterizationresults revealed that the Hexamethylenetetramine Dicyanamide Cadmium nano particles werecompatible with polymer matrix well and homogenously distributed in the matrix Theperformances of prepared membranes in gas separation were evaluated at pressure of 10 barg andtemperature of 30 C The obtained results showed that in the present of HexamethylenetetramineDicyanamide Cadmium nano particles in polysulfone structure the permeability of carbon dioxide oxygen nitrogen and methane gases decreased respectively from 6 16 1 57 0 49 and 0 21 Barrerin pure PSF to 5 00 1 26 0 29 and 0 12 Barrer in the Nano composite membrane containing2 5 wt Hexamethylenetetramine Dicyanamide Cadmium particles The permeability valuesdecreased 18 84 24 6 40 81 and 42 85 respectively Also the performances of separation ofCO2 from CH4 separation of CO2 from N2 and separation of O2 from N2 were increased by addingHexamethylenetetramine Dicyanamide Cadmium nanoparticles in PSF matrix The maximumselectivities of CO2 CH4 CO2 N2 and O2 N2 were measured as 41 56 20 01 and 5 07 in the Nanocomposite membrane containing 2 5 wt Hexamethylenetetramine Dicyanamide Cadmiumparticles respectively Based on theseresults and as well as Robsoncurves it is determined thatthemixed matrix membranewith2 5wt HexamethylenetetraamineDicyanamideCadmium in
