Optimum block designs with g covariate Fatemeh Alirezaei Varnosfaderani f alirezaeivarnosfaderani@math iut ac ir 2015 Department of Mathematical Sciences Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Supervisor Dr Saeid Pooladsaz Advisor Dr Zahra Saberi 2010 MSC 62K05 62K10 Keywords BTIB design Covariate models Hadamard matrix Khatri Rao product Kroncker prod uct AbstractIn experimental designs we encounter sometimes with problems in which the response variable is inlinear relation with some other variables These variables are called covariates Based on experimentalconditions these covariates are divided into following two categorise 1 The covariates are stochasticsuch that they are not under the control of experimenter however one can observe them togetherwith the response variables 2 The covariates are not stochastic and they are under the control ofexperimenter and their values are assigned by him When the response variable is in linear relationwith some variables utilizing designs for models with covariates are useful Using these designs themean square errors is reduced and caused the appearance of real di erences between the treatments In this thesis we take into account the covariates of type 2 and seek the optimal designs with covari ates in block design structure The optimum covariate designs OCD have been considered for theset up of the randomized block designs RBD balanced incomplete block designs BIBD partiallybalanced incomplete block designs and balanced treatment incomplete block designs BTIBD whichform an important class of test control designs The use of covariates in block designs is necessary when the experimental errors cannot be controlledusing only the qualitative factors The choice of values of the covariates for a given set up attainingminimum variance for estimation of the regression parameters has attracted attention in recent years It is seen that the OCDs depend much on the methods of construction of the basic block designs
