80 Preparation and characterization of Cobalt III complexes by phosphin and N2O2 tetrdented schiff base ligands Immobilization of complexes onto montmorillonite K10 MMT K10 Majid Enteshri majid enteshari@ch iut ac ir Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Dr Ali Hossein Kianfar akianfar@cc iut ac irAdvisor Dr Hossein Farrokhpour h farrokh@cc iut ac irAdvisor Dr Mohammad Dinari dinari@cc iut ac irAbstract The Co naphophen PPh3 OH2 ClO4 and Co naphophen PBu3 OH2 BF4 where naphophen bis naphthaldehyde 1 2 phenylenediimine complexes were synthesiszed and chracterized by FT IR UV Vis 1HNMR 13C NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis techniques The coordination geometry of the synthezisedcomplexes were determined by X ray crystallography Cobalt III complexes have six coordinated pseudo octahedralgeometry in which the O 1 O 2 N 1 and N 2 atoms of the Schiff base forms the equatorial plane These complexesshow a dimeric structure via hydrogen bonding between the phenolate oxygen and the hydrogens of coordinated H2Omolecule The theoretical calculations were also performed to optimize the structure of complexes in the gas phase toconfirm the structure propose by X ray crystallography In addition UV Visible and IR spectra of complexes werecalculated and compared with the corresponding experimental spectra for more structural confirmation The obtainedcomplexes were incoporated onto the Montmorillonite K10 nanoclay via simple ion exchange reaction The structureand morphology of the obtained nanohybrids were identified by FT IR XRD TGA DTA SEM and TEM techniques Based on the XRD results of the new nanohybrid materials the Schiff base complexes were intercalated in theinterlayer spaces of clay SEM and TEM micrographes of the clay complex shown that the resulting hybridnanomaterials has layer structures Keyword Montmorillonite K10 nanoclay theoretical structural X Ray crystallography Cobalt Schiff baseComplexes DFT calculation Insertion compounds
