135 Effects of Nano iron Chelate on the Response of Wheat Genotypes to Salt Stress Sadegh Omidi Nargesi sadegh omidi@ag iut ac ir December 1 2014 Department of Agronomy and Plant Breeding College of Agriculture Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan Iran 84156 83111Degree M Sc Language PersianSipervisor Morteza Zahedi mzahedi@acc iut ac ir Hamidreza Eshghizadeh hr eshghizadeh@cc iut ac ir AbstractThis experiment was conducted in Soilless Culture Research Center at the Isfahan University of Technology in2013 using hydroponic culture In this study the effects of ordinary and nano forms of iron chelate fertilizer wereevaluated on the responses of six wheat cultivars Line 9 shoory Kavir Sorkh tokhm Chamran Adl and Star under four salinity levels 0 50 100 and 150 mM NaCl The experiment was carried out as factorial in arandomized complete block design with three replications Plants were harvested at vegetative and physiologicalmaturity stages SPAD index plant height root length and volume leaf area shoot and plant total dry weight theconcentration of potassium in shoot and roots number of spike in plant spike length and weight number of grainsand grain weight in spike were reduced under saline conditions SPAD index and root volume of Chamran and Adl shoot and plant total dry weight of Kavir spike length and the number of spikes in plant were not negativelyaffected by 50 mM NaCl salinity However leaf yellowing intensity root shoot dry weight ratio sodiumconcentration in shoot and roots and sodium potassium ratio in shoot and roots were increased under salinetreatments The extent of decreases in shoot dry weight at 50 100 and 150 mM NaCl were greater in plantsharvested at physiological maturity 48 65 and 83 respectively than those harvested at vegetative stage 20 27and 28 Based on the average reductions in shoot dry weight under three salinity levels cultivars Adl and Line 9 shoory at vegetative stage and Adl and Sorkh tokhm at physiological maturity stage were the least and most saltsensitive cultivars respectively There were significant differences among wheat cultivars in response to nano formof iron chelate Supply of plants with the nano compared to the ordinary form of iron chelate increased shoot dryweight of cultivars Line 9 shoory Kavir Chamran Adl and Star and decreased shoot dry weight of cultivarSorkhtokhm at vegetative stage but increased shoot dry weight of cultivars Line 9 shoory Kavir Sorkhtokhm andStar and decreased shoot dry weight of cultivars Chamran and Adl at physiological maturity The ratio of root shootdry weight was decreased under 50 but it was increased under 100 and 150 mM NaCl as plants were supplied by thenano form of iron chelate The results of this experiment showed that there were significant differences amongwheat cultivars in response to salinity and the application of nano form of iron chelate Key words Wheat cultivars Salinity Iron chelate Nano particles Potassium Sodium
