936 Optimization of UAV path in MIMO relay Communication networks with moving nodes Abolfazl Mazloom Bokavoli Abolfazl mazloomi@live com Data of Submission 2015 06 09 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan Iran 84156 83111Degree Master of Science Language PersianSupervisor Dr Mohammad Sadegh Fazel fazel@cc iut ac irAbstract Recently using unmanned aerial vehicles UAVs as Relay in communicationnetworks have attracted attention due to advantages of extending coverage andimproving connectivity for long range communications The main point of using aUAV as a relay which is that its location could changing according to the terms of thenetwork In applications that ground nodes are mobile and may be due to existenceof mountainous terrain or urban the possibility of sending information directly toeach other using a UAV with Appropriate altitude flight can be guaranteedcontinuous connection between the ground nodes and avoid network outage Animportant issue in the field to determine the optimal path for the appropriate locationin the UAV placement at any moment relative to the other network nodes in order toprovide the best performance In this thesis we ve considered a relay communicationnetwork consisting of two ground nodes as source and destination information and aswell as a UAV in the role of relay which operates in Amplify and Forward AF protocol In this network all nodes are movable and have multiple antenna Our goalis providing optimal algorithm to determine the UAV path by maximization data ratevia the maximization SNR signal received at the destination The proposed algorithmsimulation results suggest increasing the number of antennas at each node andtransmit power source or relay can have a great impact on the UAV path andimprove network efficiency The results of the proposed algorithm compared withexhaustive search method to determine the path indicates the proposed method isacceptable while exhaustive search method is more complex and requires moreprocessing Keywords Unmanned Aerial Vehicles path planning Cooperative communication Beamforming Space Time Code
