95 Residual Effects of Burnings on some Soil Chemical and Physical Properties in Fereydan Pastures Mohammad Davoudi Mohammad davoudi@ag iut ac ir June 21 2015 Department of Soil Science Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor M A Hajabbasi hajabbas@cc iut ac ir AbstractAmong the various destruction factors of forests and grasslands fire is considereddangerous and cause different effects depending on conditions of fire on the physical chemical and biological soil properties Each year many area of world s forests andgrasslands are burned in fire which leads to destruction of vegetation and disturbs thehydrological processes increasing soil erosion and runoff generated from these areas Firesin forests and pastures of Iran that have different climates and vegetation occurs mostly byhumans and intentionally According to available statistics between 1991 and 1997 morethan 3000 fire events occurred which affects 13700 acres of land natural resources to beburned This study aimed to evaluate the residual effects of fire on soil physical andchemical properties in the Frieden pastures Central Zagros Iran Experiment wasconducted in a randomized complete block design The primary particle size distributionand texture lime density pH electrical conductivity organic matter sodium potassium calcium and magnesium sodium adsorption ratio SAR and phosphorus iron manganese zinc and soil microbial respiration were measured by conventional methods The resultsshowed that the fire had a significant effect on some chemical properties of soil and soiltexture class is changed Amounts of organic matter potassium calcium and magnesium phosphorus iron and manganese in the soil increases by fire Mean comparisons showedthat soil organic matter from 2 10 in unburned soil reached to 4 12 in burned soil Amountsof potassium calcium and magnesium from 0 45 6 42 and 1 19 to 0 95 in unburned soil to9 91 and 2 22 meq liter in burned soil respectively and the values of P Fe and Mn respectively were from 31 30 18 22 and 37 29 in unburned soil to 34 17 20 39 and 55 64mg kg soil in the area burned has increased The overall impact on soil chemical propertiesin the first year after the fire is higher and this process decreases with time Key words Friedan Pasture Fire Residual effects Vegetation Physical and ChemicalProperties
