81 Investigation on Effect of Adding Aluminum on Wear Behavior and Oxidation Resistance of Hear Resistant Steel DIN 1 4837 Roozbeh Jalil R Jalil@ma iut ac ir August 19 2015 Department of Materials Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Dr H Edris Prof h edris@cc iut ac irAbstractThis research means to evaluate the effect of adding Aluminum as alloying element on wearbehavior and oxidation resistance of heat resistant steel DIN1 4837 this steel used in themanufacturing of industrial parts in pelletizing units and because of these parts contact withthe hot gas and dust in the gases it is necessary to have high resistance against wearing andoxidation Adding of aluminum to chemical compound of these steels caused formation ofintermetallic compounds such as AlNi and also Al2O3 formed a stable and protective oxidelayer on the surface of these parts In order to evaluate the effect of Aluminum alloy element steel s samples with different percentage of Aluminum 2 4 and 7 percent produced bycasting operation To ensure of samples chemical compound X Ray FluorescenceSpectroscopy used Then homogenization treatment was performed on samples and hardnessof them was measured before and after the homogenization treatment In order to evaluateof wear behavior the test performed in environmental temperature and 500 C and foranalyzing the results Scanning Electron Microscope and Energy Dispersive X RaySpectroscopy was used Also oxidation test done at 900 C for 50 hours on the samples andevaluating the results samples scanned with electron microscope and to study the phasesand chemical compound diffraction and Energy Dispersive X Ray Spectroscopy was used The results have shown that by adding Aluminum to the chemical compound of this steel it s hardness increased due to intermetallic phases consist of Ni and Al that affect on thewear properties of steel The result also show that oxidation resistance in high temperatureof steel increased by adding Aluminum to chemical compound due to create Al2O3 as aprotective oxide layer Keywords heat resistant steel aluminum wear oxidation
