Coupled Cell Networks Symmetry Groupoids and Patterns of Synchrony Sajjad Bakrani Balani s bakrani@math iut ac ir 2015 Department of Mathematical Sciences Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Supervisor Dr Majid Gazor mgazor@cc iut ac ir Advisor Dr Reza Mazrooei Sebdani mazrooei@cc iut ac ir 2010 MSC 05C15 53C42 Keywords coupled cell network symmetry groupoid synchronization Abstract Coupled cell networks here refer to a group of dynamical systems called as cells whose cells arecoupled and interact with each other A directed graph is assigned to each coupled cell networkhighlighting how cells are in uenced by others An equivalence relation on cells is also shown onthe graph A fundamental question raised in the theory of coupled cell networks refers to interplaybetween the architecture and the dynamics of these networks and till now lots of measures have beentaken to understand this Recently Stewart and Golubitsky et al have presented a well establishedframework and many techniques for a systematic dynamics understanding of these kinds of dynamicalsystems They introduced a type of classi cation on cells namely balanced relations which is aproperty of network architecture and proved that a coupled cell network possesses a robust pattern ofsynchrony if and only if a balanced coloring exists on the network cells Using the balanced relations onnetworks they introduced the concept of a quotient network corresponding to a balanced coloring on acoupled cell network They also used these balanced colorings to investigate possible rigid patterns ofsynchrony in coupled cell networks All these tools are extensively discussed in this thesis Moreover an appropriate formalism for local bifurcation analysis of these systems by using the tools in classicalnormal form theory is presented This latter approach for coupled cell networks is introduced by Rinkand Sanders in 2015
