Evaluation of mechanical properties and microstructure of Cu foam produced by Accumulative Roll Bonding with usage of CaCO3 as blowing agent Elaheh Amirkhani Dehkordi Email address e amirkhani@ma iut ac ir Date January 16 2016 Department of Materials Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language PersianSupervisor Mohammad Reza Toroghinejad Professor toroghi@cc iut ac irAbstractIn this research Accumulative roll bonding was used to produce Cu foam CaCO3 powderwas utilized as the blowing agent Accumulative roll bonding carried out in 4 cycles with75 reduction CaCO3 powder was scattered in the between layers of copper in differentweight percentages 0 1 to 0 5 4 cycle operation was performed for each of the powder To create porosity in the structure samples were heated at 5 temperatures 650 700 800 900 and 1000 C To investigate mechanical behavior compression test wascarried out and Microstructures were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscopy TheScanning Electron Microscopy results indicate that the distribution of porosity caused bythe decomposition of calcium carbonate were improvement in all weight percent of CaCO3by increasing the number rd Accumulative roll bonding cycles The distribution of ofporosity was improved in 3 cycle at low percentage of CaCO3 and in 0 4 wt morenumber of ARB cycles were need to achieve suitable distribution but in 0 5 wt thesample was failed Mechanical properties and compressive strength were improved byincreasing the number of ARB cycles The highest compressive strength was achieved in4th cycle The optimal temperature for foaming was 900 C Key words Cu foam Accumulative roll bonding CaCO3 Mechanical properties Microstructure
