81Seperation of gas mixture by hydrate formation in the presence of Tetrabutylammonium chloride Acetone promoters CO2 from Behnam mousanezhad b mousanezhad@ce iut ac ir Dr Ali Akbar Dadkhah dadkhah@cc iut ac ir Department of Chemical Engineering Data of submission January 16 2016Degree M Sc Language PersianAbstractDue to the impact of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere as well as reuse of carbon dioxidefor different purposes gas separation method has great importance in the industry In the present study to learnmore about this phenomenon separation of carbon dioxide gas by means of hydrate equilibrium conditions temperature and pressure equilibrium and the mixture of nitrogen and carbon dioxide gases with hydratepromoters were studied in the presence of acetone and ammonium tetrabutylammoniumchloride salt In this methodfor experimentation a cell with jacket made of stainless steel with volume of 509 ml were used Temperature andpressure were measured and reported by a sensor cell and electronic board connected to a computer First 200 mlof pure water was used in order to find hydrate equilibrium points for nitrogen and CO 2 44 31 mol Theequilibrium pressure and temperature was 34 bar and 7 C and the percentage of separation was 41 53 Then carbondioxide and nitrogen gases at different initial pressures in the presence of acetone initial temperature stirrer speed volume of the solution and quickly change the same temperature were experimented It was observed that theinitial pressure reduced from 37 bar to bar 29 and the equilibrium temperature and pressure was changed from 8 Cand 32 bar to 2 5 C and 24 bar so the separation was changed from 38 25 to 32 62 By reducing the pressurefrom bar 29 to bar 26 the temperature and the pressure equilibrium was changed from 24 bar and 2 C to 18 bar and2 5 C so that the separation was reduced from 32 62 to 31 85 which implies that the equilibrium temperature andpressure and percentage of carbon dioxide was declined Acetone and tetrabutylammoniumchloride salt was usedfor gas hydrate formation with varying proportions of carbon dioxide in mixture of carbon dioxide and nitrogen The best equilibrium conditions and separated carbon dioxide was 18 5 C 5 26 bar and 53 54 and it was observedthat the mixture of acetone and tetrabutylammoniumchloride salt by weight of 24 and 5 was used at the samecondition initial pressure and temperature stirrer speed volume of solution and the change of temperature Whenthe water was used in the absence of tetrabutylammoniumchloride and acetone at the same condition initialpressure and temperature stirrer speed volume and rate of temperature change of the same solution the lowestcarbon dioxide separation equal to 41 53 and the worst equilibrium points that was the 7 C and 34 bar wasobserved Consequently the results showed acetone and tetrabutylammoniumchloride improves equilibriumconditions and also helped to increase the separation of carbon dioxide indicating a healing effect of hydrateformation thermodynamically Keyword Carbon dioxide Hydrate Gas Hydrate Promptor TBAC Acetone
