Stimulated Raman Scattering And Suppressing the Scattering By Supper Gaussian Laser Pulses Masumeh Abbasi Masumeh Abbasi@ph iut ac ir Date of Submission January 12 2016 Department of Physics Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Degree M Sc language Persian Supervisor A Parvazian Abstract Increasing needs to energy in the world in recent years caused Mankind looks fornew sources of energy Different approaches to use nuclear energy such as nuclearfusion are commonly considered There are two methods to obtain sufficient fusion energy gain inertial confinementfusion ICF and magnetic confinement fusion MCF In order to reach high energygain high density and high temperature in fuel materials are needed Heating fuelmaterials such as deuterium and tritium to ignition temperature leads to have a plasmamedium There are several way to heat plasma To reach to ignition conditions such ascompressing the fuel by high intensity beams in ICF as using electromagnetic wave in MCF Electromagnetic waves heating can produce different instabilities One of the most important instability is called Raman scattering by thatelectromagnetic wave decays into a scattered electromagnetic wave and an electronplasma wave EPW EPW energies transfer to fuel particles that can heat the plasma A few percent of incident laser beam energy will be lost by back scattering Thisphenomenon causes a reduction in energy gain In order to suppress Ramanbackscattering We had to used a supper Gaussian laser pulses to interact with plasmain a short time then Langmuir wave energy increase before to reach the saturation Then saturation state of EPW breaks and damping efficiency of energy gain happens In this method although SRS peak power is increased but SRS from short pulse growup from initial time of backscattering wave Keyword nuclear fusion magnetic confinement stimulated Raman scattering supperGaussian laser pulse
