New Algorithms for Optimum Control of Smart Nonlinear Asymmetric Buildings Equipped With Magneto Rheological MR Dampers Subjected to Seismic Loads Mohamad Mahdi Zafarani mm zafarani@cv iut ac ir 8 May 2016 Department of Civil Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree Ph D Language PersianSupervisor Dr Amir Mahdi Halabian mahdi@cc iut ac irAdvisor Dr Saeed Behbahani Department Graduate Program Coordinator Dr Mohammad Navid Moghim Faculty of Civil Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Isfahan University of TechnologyAbstractDevelopment of a robust control algorithm for asymmetric buildings due to randomness ofground excitations and torsional behavior has been always a significant challenging task invibrations control of structures While the control algorithm in a simple approach could bedesigned ignoring the dependency of stiff and flexible edges Engineering DemandParameters EDPs the present research aimed also to develop a control strategy thatmitigates simultaneously asymmetric edges inelastic responses of plan asymmetric buildingsequipped with Magneto Rheological MR dampers Hence in this dissertation intelligentalgorithms including Coupled and Uncoupled Fuzzy Logic Control algorithms integratedwith non dominated sorting genetic algorithm II NSGAII and also a new adaptive modelbase control strategy using the advantage of inelastic static pushover analysis as an offlineinput data with Multi Input Multi Output MI MO application have been developed andexamined The effectiveness of the proposed controllers on the inelastic seismic behavior ofsmart plan asymmetric one and multi storey structures were evaluated under various strongand ordinary ground motions To take inelastic behavior of controlled asymmetric building smembers into account the fiber elements modeling was employed Furthermore robustness ofthe proposed adaptive strategy due to randomness direction of two component groundmotions was evaluated Effect of distribution of dampers on the inelastic torsional response ofmulti storey asymmetric moment frame buildings was considered and used to determineoptimal location of dampers for 3 storey buildings while earthquake directionality effects wasconsidered In order to alleviate all difficulties to design a proper actuator location for a nine story building and attain the desired level of performance the NSGAII algorithm was appliedconsidering peak inter story drift ratio and peak floor rotation and the base shear force as thethree objective functions for the optimal design problem Key Words Asymmetric building nonlinearity adaptive control MR damper earthquakedirectionality
