87 CFD Simulation For Fabrication Of C SiC Composites By Chemical Vapor Infiltration Prosess Vahid Bahrami v bahrami@ce iut ac ir Jun 22 2016 Department of Chemical Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiDr M haghshenas Email haghshenas@cc iut ac ir Abstract The ceramic composites with their extraordinary properties at high temperatures arewidely used in various fields SiC ceramic reinforced with carbon fiber is considered asone of the most widely used of this class which have different applications in the aerospaceindustry The best method for making this class of materials is chemical vapor infiltrationprocess Chemical vapor infiltration is the process in which a gas diffuse and deposit asolid in to a pereform and causes a decrease in initial porosity of pereform and fabricate acomposite This method is the best method for the production of ceramic matrix compositesbecause it produce a more uniform ceramic In this study different methods of producingceramic matrix composites are explained and then CVI method is described in detailbecause there is no Farsi reference on the production of CMCs After that relations andparameters of CVI processes described and then an isobaric isothermal CVI process whichhad previously simulated by Wei et al is simulated by the use of CFD based on finiteelement method with new process parameters such as effective surface area and diffusiontortuosity factor that has been achieved in recent years and the results were compared withexperimental results that were presented by them After that the effect of temperature andpressure variation on infiltration process is examined and finally a new deposition methodand chemical infiltration process is proposed which is analyzed by CFD simulation and theadvantages of new method is examined Keywords ceramic matrix composites CVI CFD C SiC FEM simulation
