66 Larval feeding behaviour of Guppy larva Poecilia reticulata and Flower fish larva Blood Parrot Texas Cichlid fed Ceriodaphnia quadrangula Daphnia magna and Artemia franciscana Sajjad Pahlevani Sajjad pahlevani@yahoo com Department of Natural Resources Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree MSc Language PersianDr Omidvar Farhadian omfarhad@cc iut ac irAbstractCladocerans are zooplanktonic crustacean which are important links between phytoplanktons and the highertrophic levels in aquatic ecosystems and they served as live food in aquaculture industry They have a greatimportance in aquatic larval feeding because of high species diversity high level of protein carotenoids andhaving larva essential digestive enzymes in early stages of nutrition and wide size range In respect to theirimportance in aquaculture industry at present research feeding behavior and ingestion rate of Guppy larva Poecilia reticulata and Flowerhorn larva while feeding by Ceriodaphnia quadrangula Daphnia magna andnauplii of Artemia franciscana were investigated under laboratory conditions For this purpose twoexperiments including Guppy and Flowerhorn larvae ingestion rate in two age groups of 20 and 40 daysafter haching fed C quadrangula D magna and nauplii of A franciscana with 3 different densities of 2 5and 10 perys ml from five treatments including C quadrangula D magna nauplii of A franciscana C quadrangula and D magna combination 1 1 in number and C quadrangula and nauplii of A franciscanacombination 1 1 in number in light and dark conditions were designed Results showed that there were notsignificant differences between ingestion rates in light and dark conditions Results of ingestion rate ofFlowerhorn fish in different densities of five treatments showed that the maximum ingestion rates 240preys hour were in the 40 days larvae with density of 10 preys ml using nauplii of A franciscana in lightcondition while the minimum 0 025 preys hour were 20 days larva in D magna with density of 10 preys ml in light condition respectively Results of ingestion rate in Guppy fish in different densities of fivetreatments showed that the maximum ingestion rates 161 preys hour were 40 days larvae with density of 5preys ml using nauplii of A franciscana in light condition while minimum 0 96 preys hour at 20 dayslarva in D magna with density of 2 preys ml in dark condition respectively The weight specific ingestionof Guppy and Flowerhorn larvae fed on five treatments prey decreased with increasing age larva andincreasing prey density The electivity indices E in two fish larvae for C quadrangula and nauplii of A franciscana combination 1 1 in number with increasing age larva indicating lower tendency towardsnauplii of A franciscana consumption and in treatment of C quadrangula and D magna combination 1 1 innumber always tendency towards C quadrangula consumption In conclusion nauplii of A franciscanashow highest ingestion rate and C quadrangula and Nauplii of A franciscana combination 1 1 in number C quadrangula C quadrangula and D magna combination 1 1 in number and D magna in two fishlarvae and in two age groups showed decrease ingestion rate respectively and could be used as a suitablelive food to culture Guppy and Flowerhorn larvae in aquaculture industry Keywords Cladoceran Ingestion rate Light and dark condition Live food Weight specific ingestion
