Isfahan University of Technology Department of Chemistry Synthesis characterization crystal structure and investigation of electrochemical of Co II and Cu II complexes with carboxamide ligands and preparation of Co3O4 and CuO nanoparticles from Co tp 2 H2O 2 C2H5OH and Cu tp 2 H2O CHCl3 Maryam Babaie maryambabaie@yahoo com Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Prof S Meghdadi Email smeghdadi@cc iut ac irAbstractThe thiazole unit is an important constituent of medicinal compounds such as vitamin B1 fluorescent dyes insecticides and biologically active molecules In this project the synthesisof the bidentet carboxamide ligand N thiazole 2 yl picolineamide with ionic liquid TBAB as the reaction media and catalyst and Copper II and Cobalt II complexes 1 Co tp 2 H2O 2 C2H5OH 2 Cu tp 2 H2O CHCl3 are reported The N thiazole 2 yl picolineamide and its complexes were characterized by FT IR UV vis 1HNMR andelemental analysis The structure of the two complexes were determined by X raycrystallography The coordination geometry around the central metal ion in Co tp 2 H2O 2 C2H5OH complex is a distorted octahedral and in Cu tp 2 H2O CHCl3 is adistorted square pyramidal The electrochemical properties of the ligand and complexes 1 and2 were also investigated by cyclic voltammetry Cobalt II and Copper II complexes wereemployed as a novel precursor in thermal decomposition for preparation of Co3O4 and CuOnanoparticles The nanoparticles were characterized by X ray diffraction XRD scanningelectron microscopy FE SEM infrared IR spectroscopy and ultraviolet visible UV Vis spectroscopy Key Words Green Chemistry Ionic Liquids Carboxamide Ligand CyclicVoltammetry Co3O4 and CuO nanoparticles
