98 Evaluation and comparison of the effect of heat treatment on NiCrBSi sprayed coating on 316 stainless steel by HVOF and HP HVOF Ali Eskandari Ali eskandari@ma iut ac ir Date of Submission 2017 01 21 Department of Materials Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Ali Shafyei shafyei@cc iut ac ir Abstract NiCrBSi alloy as a Nickel based alloys is commonly used in aerospace automative chemical industries hot working mold impeller blade and oil industries In this study the effect of coating process and heat treatment cycle on tribological properties of NiCrBSi coating was discussed For this purpose a series of specimens coated by HVOF and other specimens coated by HP HVOF technology The specimens heat treated in 950 C and 1000 C for 1 2 and 4 hours in an argon atmosphere to evaluate the effects of heat treatment on coating properties Wear tests at 50 and 80 N on all of the specimens were done The results showed that the heat treatment have different effects on wear behavior Metallographic tests XRD micro hardness test AFM and nano indenter test carried out on raw and heat treated specimens in 1 hour Metallographic results showed that the thickness and porosity of heat treated coating is less than raw coating XRD results showed that the kind of coating process has no effect on phase composition However heat treatment has little effect on phase composition Micro hardness test showed the reduce in hardness occured after heat treatment Nanoindenter test showed the reduce in hardness and elastic modulus occured after the heat treatment too Keywords Nickel based coating Thermal spray Wear Heat treatment
