992 Buckling and free vibration analysis of functionally graded rectangular thick plates using mixed method of finite strip and generalized reproducing kernel particle method GRKPM FSM Keivan Zonoubi k zonoubi@cv iut ac ir Date of Submission 2017 06 17 Department of Mechanical Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Prof Mojtaba Azhari mojtaba@cc iut ac irAdvisor Dr Saeed Sarrami Foroushani sarrami@cc iut ac irAbstractFollowing the ever increasing advances in marine and aerospace and the need for flexible andhigh temperature materials the use of FGM plates is inevitable FGMs are heterogeneouscomposite materials in which the microscopic properties of the material vary gradually andcontinuously along the thickness In these plates the external surface exposed to heat and theinternal sueface are made of ceramic and metal respectively In the present study application of generalized reproducing kernel particle method GRKPM FSM for analyzing of thick FGM plate s buckling and free vibration isinvestigated In the proposed numerical analysis method GRKPM and Hermitian shapefunctions are used along length and width of each strip respectively GRKPM is a meshlessmethod in which the shape functions are placed on particles of domain solution SubstitutingGRKPM shape functions instead of spline functions in spline finite strip method SFSM enables us to propagate the nodal points along the strip edges with arbitrary arrangement Thisprovides us the possibility to improve the accuracy of solution by increasing number of pointsin the required areas of solution domain without needing mesh The advantage of this methodis that by maintaining the simplicity of FSM it is possible to analyze plate problems witharbitrary boundary conditions and even the middle support as well as plates with an abruptthickness changes along the length of plate In this study third order shear deformation theory TSDT is applied for analysis of thick plate In the present study In addition to demonstrating the capability of GRKPM FSM in staticanalysis of the plate with abrupt changes the effects of various parameters such as platethickness boundary conditions material distribution along thickness direction and length ofplate on local buckling and free vibration of the thick FGM plate is investigated and results arecompared with those available in the literatures Keywords Third order shear deformation theory Thick plate Finite Strip Method RKPM Buckling free vibration
