89 Assessment of cell survival models during the hyperthermia Ehsan Ghane Tehrani Date of Submission 2017 09 27 Department of Mechanical Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Ahmad saboonchi ahmadsab@cc iut ac irAbstract Nowadays hyperthermia is known as the fourth pillar of cancer treatment Cell survivalmodels are used to determine the percentage of tissue damage that occurs after heating Because of the limitations of laboratory data there has not been a comparison between thesemodels for a variable temperature treatment In this study cell survival models have beencompared in a numerical approach with a temperature range Simulation is done in MATLABsoftware by applying cylindrical and spherical geometries PC3 and CHO data are used in thissimulation Moreover temperature distribution in tumor is calcuted with Pennes s living tissueheat transfer model A clear quantitative function describing effects of temperature ondifferent parameters of survive models has not been derived yet hence CEM scheme is usedand aforementioned scheme temperature changes is adapted to the time Subsequently cell survive fraction for six different models is calculated through tumor body The results showthat CEM method reduces numerical modifications but succeeds in conforming toexperimental data and displaying cell death location Also comparing numerical andexperimental results indicates Jung and Kellerer models are most accurate to predict cell death Keywords cell death cell survive models hyperthermia Pennes model CEM scheme Jung model Kellerer model
