Pediatric CT dose assessment using dosimetery of photon in adult CT Kobra Mohammadi June 21 2017 Department of Physics Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran University Code IUT 77142 Degree M S c Language Farsi supervisor Dr R Khosravi Assis prof and Dr M Deevband Assis prof rezakhosravi@cc iut ac ir Abstract By appearance of computed tomography technology there were increase of its application in CTscan experiments and researches Given the high rate transmitted energy in this methods it is es sential to use methods that decrease doses received by the patient There will also be needed tointroduce more accurate methods to estimate patient doses and effective chest doses in CT scan be tween adult and children In this method we have used the simulation code MCNPX2 6 to calculatethe effective doses In this plan we have benefited from GE Light Speed 16 Slice scanner in orderto perform CT scan All the simulation scanner elements were calculated Concerning the producedX ray spectrum the CTDI simulated values were validated using the measured values of the CTDI Inthis study we used a cylindrical PMMA phantom with a diameter of 32 cm for adults and 16 cm forchildren The calculations for both simulations and experiment were performed in the center of the mSvphantom as well as the position at 12 O clock We used the conversion coefficient 0 017 mGy cm inorder to convert the characteristic dose quantity namely CTDI vol for adults and five age groups ofchildren Our findings confirm the correspondance of the CTDI vol values obtained from simulationand experiment To calculate dose scanner type scanner mode patient s body size and patient sgender must be considered In calculating patient s chest effective doses in both cases including chil dren and adults we have used of conversion coefficient DLP This parameter is represented by the mSvdevice using conversion coefficient 0 017 mGy cm The results of this study declare the linear relationbetween adult doses and children doses This means that we are able to stimate children chest dosesby having adult doses The closeness of the amount of dose in children and adults requires using anappropriate protocol for children Keywords Chest CT Scan Effective Dose Monte Carlo Simulation Phantom
