133 classification reservoir rock according to saturation function Fatemeh tahmasbi sefiddashti f tahmasbi@ce iut ac ir 20 May 2017 Department of Chemical Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language PersianSupervisors Hamidreza Shahverdi hr shahverdi@cc iut ac irAbstractIncreasing demand for oil as the main source of energy in the world has urged manycountries to maximize oil recovery from their oil reservoirs Simulation is a powerful toolfor predicting reservoir performance and future production planning In Reservoirsimulation is necessary to enter the static and dynamic properties of each grid separately Since carbonate reservoirs are heterogeneous the classification of the reservoir s rockbased on the dynamic and static properties can reduce the amount of input data andultimately simulations will be faster One of the most important subjects in reservoirsimulation and description is the determination of flow units In this research in addition tointroducing common methods for determining the flow units in the oil industry weevaluated the ability of these methods It is shown that these methods have disadvantages the most important of which is not considering dynamic flow properties Using thesemethods the capillary pressure curves are not classified In this way a new method wasdeveloped to determine the flow units based on the capillary pressure curves In thismethod firstly the capillary pressure curves of the samples were modeled Then a factorwas proposed based on the model parameters Using this method the capillary pressurecurves and the permeability values were well classified Key WordsFlow unit Carbonate reservoirs Capillary pressure Classification
