Analyzing the 3D motion of parts in hopping and sliding modes in vibratory bowl feeders Sayedemadodin Najmi s najmi@me iut ac ir June 26 2018 Department of Mechanical Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree Master of Science Language FarsiSupervisor Saeed Ziaei Rad Prof szrad@cc iut ac ir AbstractToday the industry has been undeniably affected by the creation of assembly lines and with the help of which ithas been able to produce a lot of massive quantities per day One of the most important devices on the assemblyline is the part s feeder device which has three main tasks of storing aligning and feeding the parts Thisdevice is divided into two types of vibratory and non vibrational which the typical type is vibratory feeders The vibratory feeders are divided into linear and bowl types In this study the bowl model has been investigated This type of feeder is used in a variety of industries such as pharmacy or electronics for example applicationssuch as capacitor or resistance generation as well as food industry ca be named Investigating the movementof the part on the spiral bowl track leads to the achievement of a particular feed rate and knowing the effect ofvarious parameters on the feed rate such as the range of vibration or excitation frequency can be very useful forthe industries concerned In this research the movement of nut 14 is modeled as a common part in the industryin a three dimensional fashion this modeling is carried out in two ways one in the software and another byobtaining the dynamic equations of the 3D motion of the part Simulation in ADAMS software assumingthe body is rigid and considering the contact of the part with the track and the wall as well as the parts witheach other was conducted In this simulation the contact is modeled with a spring and a damper Modelingwith Newton s dynamic equations is achieved with the assumption of a particle mass for the part as well as itscontact with the wall using the coefficient of restitution In addition to obtaining the dynamic equations of 3Dmotion of mass using the Newton method implementation of these equations is done in MATLAB software To validate the results of simulation a test has been conducted with a vibratory feeder of conventional casingsin the industry In this experiment to study the effect of friction coefficient of the track on the feed rate threematerials were used for covering the track Also to examine the effect of several nuts on the track on feed rate ofa particular nut nine nuts were placed on the spiral track and the feed rate of the fifth nut was investigated Theresults showed that the increase in the frequency of stimulation with the increase of the vertical and torsionalvibration amplitude surges the feed rate Moreover in the presence of 9 nuts on the track the feed rate ofthe fifth nut is higher than the feed rate of a nut on the same track In the next step with increasing frictioncoefficient the feeding rate of the nut 14 raises KeywordsVibratory bowl feeder Part nut Three dimensional motion Rigid body Particle mass
