Joint channel and Carrier Frequency Offsetestimation in UFMC communication system Alizade Emad e alizadeh@ec iut ac ir Dec 2017 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Prof Mohamad Javad Omidi omidi@cc iut ac ir Abstract The next generation 5G cellular network is to provide a large variety of services for different kinds of terminals fromtraditional voice and data services over mobile phones to small packet transmission over massive machine type terminalsfor internet of things IoT applications Although orthogonal frequency division multiplexing OFDM is widely usednowadays in many practical systems it can hardly meet the requirements in the coming 5G networks because of somechallenges such as high out of band emission and carrier frequency offset CFO sensitivity Therefore more flexiblewaveforms have been proposed to address the unprecedented challenges Universal filtered multicarrier UFMC system isone of the 5G candidate systems Although UFMC has less CFO sensitivity but accurate estimation of channel response and CFO is of a great importance in any communication system There is one hybrid CFO estimation algorithm for UFMCsystem this algorithm has limited CFO estimation range and it is not suitable for uplink multicarrier scenario Hence we propose data aided joint CFO and channel estimation algorithm for both multiuser uplink and downlink of the UFMCsystem without CFO dependency We use new matrix based formulation to use UFMC system properties in our estimationalgorithm Simulation results show our algorithm has good performance near to cramer rao lower band Proposed jointCFO and channel response algorithm has lower complexity by means of reduced number of search point for CFO integerpart estimation Key Words Multicarrier Communication systems UFMC system Frequency Offset Estimation
