A new approach for peak to average power ratio reduction in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing modulation in visible light communication systems Saba Habibi s habibi@ec iut ac ir May 12 2018 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisors Assist Prof Foroogh Sadat Tabataba fstabataba@cc iut ac ir Assist Prof Ehsan Yazdian yazdian@cc iut ac ir Abstract With the expansion of researches towards the 5th generation of the wireless communication systems using visible lightcommunications for transmitting the information become more important Visible light communications which use therange of wavelengths between 380 to 750 nm have some advantages such as higher power efficiency higher bandwidthefficiency and more data rates than radio frequency communication The transmission speed in visible light communicationis 66 times more than RF based systems Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing is a kind of modulation which haveattracted attentions these days because it is an effective solution to the inter symbol interference problem However one ofthe disadvantages of this modulation is high peak to average power ratio PAPR In this thesis we have proposed a newscheme to reduce PAPR in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing in visible light communications this idea affordedus the chance of considering the requairements of sending and recieving informations through the optical channels in thisidea first of all we clipp the signal in a thershold level The clipped error informations are kept and repositioned in theirown previous positions finally we prepare a bitstream consists of domain and sign informations which leads to correctdetection in the receiver then we convert this bitstream to a time domain signal and after a time multiplexing it will sendwith the main siganl Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves peak to average power ratio reductionwith almost no loss of information and with good performance in bit error ratio and low complexity Key Words Visible Light Communication Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Peak toAverage Power Ratio
