AbstractLearning and teaching through peers namely peer learning is an educational process inwhich people in same class who are not professional instructors teach to and learn from eachother Researchers suggest that peer learning can lead to higher academic achievement better interpersonal relationships and an optimistic learning atmosphere However peerlearning is not just about having learners together Peer learning may result in one persondoing all the effort for instance It may fail to encourage the learners to interact enough A novel mechanism to foster an effective and well organanized peer learning has beenproposed in this thesis by applying a game theoretical approach PD PL The proposedmechanism uses prisoner s dilemma the most widely known example of game theory andmaps the strategy and payoff concepts found in prisoner s dilemma onto the peer learningatmosphere The initial version of our proposed mechanism i e G TEC will be addressedin this report PD PL was implemented during several sessions at four university courses and with 142computer engineering students The proposed mechanism was implemented in 7 sessions ofeach course Hence we ran our mechanism in 28 different sessions To evaluate the proposed mechanism the results of the pre test and post test exams for allmechanism s sessions have been compared Our analysis via R software and PairedHotelling s T Square suggests that PD PL has positive effects on learners performance In evaluation and implementation of PD PL we take into account issues such as peerlearning requirements Since the Paired Hotelling s T Square requires a number ofprerequisites such as missing data imputation we use mean data imputation median dataimputation K nearest neighbour imputation and fuzzy k mean clustering data imputation toimpute missed data The results of a subjective evaluation showed that the majority of respondents found PD PLto be an attractive and efficient tool for learning enhancement The key findings indicatedthat the learners successfully used PD PL in the classroom to achieve increased learningenhancement In the results section we will show that our proposed mechanism makes evenup to 47 2 growth in learning improvement The results of this research can be used in anyenvironment designed for peer learning Key wordsPeer Learning Improving classroom teaching Interactive learning environment GameTheory
