Numerical Study of New Precast Concrete Moment Resisting Beam Column Connections Behavior Forough Dabaghnia f dabaghnia@pa iut ac ir Date of Submission 2019 01 16 Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Supervisor Assoc prof Morteza Madhkhan madhkhan@cc iut ac irAbstractUsing precast concrete structures results in high speed and quality in manufacturing andreduces the manufacturing cost Considering the damages caused by past earthquakes showsthat in principle destruction in precast structures is happened because of weakness inconnections while precast members were not damaged These observations suggest this factthat designing of connections in precast structures possesses a significant position In this thesis it has been tried that with nonlinear static analysis of two type of precastconcrete semi precast beam to continuous precast column connections and one monolithicconnection their behavior is compared with each other First the connections are modeledin ABAQUS software with experimental characteristic of beam and column Then the resultsof ABAQUS models compared with experimental results and the Analytical models verifiedsuccessfully In next step precast and monolithic connections have been modeled withABAQUS software in two different size of beam and column Each connection is analyzedusing three different concrete grades with concrete compressive strengths of 25 35 45 MPa The connections have been studied with regard to resistance stiffness the rate of energyabsorption capacity and ductility by obtaining the load displacement curve of eachconnection The analytical results have shown that in each connection the connectionstiffness the rate of final capacity of connection the rate of energy absorption capacity andductility of connection increase by increasing the concrete compressive strength and byincreasing the beam and column sizes However the energy absorption capacity andductility of some precast connections were less than monolithic one but the final capacity ofprecast connections are obtained the same or more than monolithic connection Keyword Precast concrete beam to column connection nonlinear static analysis stiffness capacity ductility energy absorption capacity
