Prediction of some soil hydraulic and physical properties using pedotranfer functions in three areas of Isfahan Province Behnaz Pourbasirat b pourbasirat@ag iut ac ir July 3 2019 Department of Soil Science Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor M Afyuni afyuni@cc iut ac ir AbstractDirect measurement of soil physical and hydraulic properties are time consuming and expensive Prediction ofthe soil physical and hydraulic properties is possible using pedo trasnfer functions The objectives of thisstudy was to provide regression pedo transfer functions using easily measurable soil properties i e bulkdensity pH electrical conductivity to predict mean weight diameter of soil aggregates saturated hydraulicconductivity soil water repellency field capacity and permanent wilting point For this purpose 71 soilsamples were taken randomly from three areas Shahin Shahr Lavark Farm of Isfahan University ofTechnology and Lenjan Isfahan Province Statistical software was used in step by step method to determineregression functions Adjusted correction coefficients and average error squared in the estimation of saturatedhydraulic conductivity in regression models for educational data were 0 89 and 0 003 corrected explanatorycoefficients and mean square error in estimating the weighted average diameter of aggregates in Theregression equations for educational data were equal to 0 79 and 0 003 corrected correction coefficients andmean square error in the estimation of moisture content equivalent to agricultural capacity in regressionequations for educational data were respectively 0 80 and 0 0006 respectively the values of the correctioncoefficient and the mean square error in the estimation of moisture equivalent to the wilting point in theregression equations to the training data respectively 0 76 and 0 0005 and 0 23 and 1 25 respectively was usedto estimate the hydrophobicity Our results showed the regression equations were satisfactory estimating Ks FC PWP and water repellency using easily measurable soil properties For saturated hydraulic conductivitypercent sand organic matter and sodium absorption ratio had the highest impact for estimation of the MWD gravel the of sodium absorption ratio for estimation of FC and PWP bulk density clay and saturatedhydraulic conductivity and for the soil water repellency estimation percent sand of sodium adsorption ratioand dispersible clay had the most effect The models obtained in this research had much better prediction ofthe Ks PWP FC and MWD as compared to the models in the literature Keywords Pedotransfer functions Saturated hydraulic conductivity Field capacity Permanentwilting point Hydrophobicity 67
