Wind drift and evaporation losses of solid set irrigation system with movable sprinkler in Isfahan province Elaheh Ebrahimi Elahehe@yahoo com June 24 2019 Department of Water Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Mahdi Gheysari gheysari@cc iut ac ir Abstract Considering the increasing demand for water and the reduction of available water resources it isnecessary to increase water use efficiency Using modern irrigation methods and applying irrigationmanagement based on modern scientific principles will increase the efficiency of irrigation In recentyears extensive agricultural fields in Iran and Isfahan province have been equipped with sprinklerirrigation systems Therefore the measurement of wind drift and evaporation losses WDEL under theinfluence of climatic conditions can have useful results in decision making The purpose of this studywere to estimate the wind drift and evaporation losses using weather variables and field measuring theWDEL in selected regions with different climatic conditions The WDEL at different times 3AM 6AM 9AM 12AM and 15PM were investigated using two equations at four weather stations Isfahan Golpayegan Fereydounshahr and Najaf Abad during seven years Three different cities were selectedbased on different weather conditions Then the amount of WDEL was calculated using three methodsincluding estimation of WDEL using WD1 and WD2 equations using field measurements and usingdroplets size in sprinklers WDEL using WD1 and WD2 was estimated according to the days when fieldmeasurements were performed The amount of WDEL in Golpayegan with WD1 and WD2 equationswas equals 35 7 and 11 6 respectively and it was 18 18 for field measurements and 14 9 forusing droplet size method The amount of WDEL in Najaf Abad was 22 8 and 7 65 for the WD1 andWD2 equations and it was 12 38 for field measurement and 11 for using droplet size method Theamount of WDEL in Fereydounshahr was 35 76 and 13 39 for WD1 and WD2 equations respectively and it was 15 61 for field measurement and 12 8 for using droplet size method Theresults showed that the WDEL has been estimated 2 more than field measurement with WD1 equationand 1 5 less than field measurement by WD2 equation The correction coefficient for the WD1equation in the cities of Najaf Abad Fereydounshahr and Golpayegan was 0 54 0 44 and 0 51 respectively and for the WD2 equation was 1 62 1 17 and 1 56 respectively There was a significantdifference P 0 05 for WDEL between different hours of day different days of the year and differentmonths of the year Key WordsEvaporation and winding losses Sprinkler irrigation Droplets size
