101 The detection of surface structural patterns related to the Nargesi oil field region using Landsat 8 and sentinel 2 satellite images Mahdi Ebadi m ebadi@mi iut ac ir Date of submission July 2 2019 Department of Mining Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language PersianSupervisor Fathianpour fathian@cc iut ac irAbstractNowadays the extraction and interpretation of tectonic lineaments has become one of the routineapplications of large area structural mapping using remote sensing data Since this process iscomputationally heavy and time consuming it is very important to select the appropriate linear extractionmethod to reduce personal errors in obtaining the lineaments in the remotely sensed images Among edgedetection methods the Canny edge detection is one of the most widely used operators in this field whichis used not only in the field of remote sensing image processing but also in other fields including patternrecognition medical imaging robotics and geophysics In current study and after applying necessarycorrections and adjustments such as contrast enhancement and other appropriate preprocessing algorithmson Landsat 8 and Sentinel 2 satellite data with appropriate aerial coverage of the Nargesi Oil Field located75 km northeast of Bushehr In order to apply lineament extraction the gradient edge detection andHough transformation algorithms have been used in the MATLAB software environment to extractsurface structural linear patterns probably related to the development of Nargesi Oil Field The resultsindicated that the number of lineaments derived from panchromatic band 8643 1st degree lineaments were highly greater than those derived from the first principal component 4863 1st degree lineaments image Due to the more spectral information in the first principal component the results from the firstprincipal component was evaluated in current study As expected the results of histogram matching linear pattern and fracture severity patterns and the rose diagrams obtained by the two methods of thegradients edge detection and Hough transform as the most important methods of lineaments extractionshowed that the observed structural patterns are caused by anticline syncline folding which in some casesare displaced by faults perpendicular to the axis of folding The dominant orientation of detected lineaments are found to have east west to northwest southeastdirections which correspond to the regional structures of the Zagros thrust tectonic zone Therefore considering the directions of the dominant lineaments it can be expected that the minimum elliptic stresscomponent is the vertical stress and the maximum stress component is perpendicular to the mainstructures namely northeast southwest The intensity of fractures in parts of the surface anticlines thatappear to have a structure similar to that of deep formations constitutes suitable sites for the formationand migration of oil and gas where appropriate cap rocks are present Keyword Remote sensing Fault Lineament Edge Detection Hill Shading Technige Hough Cannyalgorithm
