Diversity Multiplexing Trade off Analysis in Hybrid Diamond Relay Channels Sina Jorjani s jorjani@ec iut ac ir Spring 2019 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisors Assist Prof Foroogh S Tabataba fstabataba@cc iut ac ir Assist Prof Hamed Narimani h narimani@cc iut ac ir Advisor Assist Prof Farzad Parvaresh f parvaresh@eng ui ac ir Abstract Next generation wireless communication systems demand both high transmission rates and a quality of service QoS guarantee Cooperative communication is a promising technique that can provide both advantages for a wireless networkas cooperation between nodes can increase the overall reliability and spectral efficiency through cooperative diversity andincreasing the total degrees of freedom DoF Diversity multiplexing tradeoff DMT captures the inherent tradeoff betweenreliability and transmission rate of the system in high signal to noise ratio SNR regime and is considered as a powerful toolto evaluate the performance of different communication schemes Nodes in a network can operate either in full duplex or inhalf duplex modes In the full duplex mode simultaneous transmission and reception of data is allowed while this operationis not possible in the half duplex mode On the other hand transmitting and receiving in full duplex mode while being morespectral efficient it is less implementable in a practical system The complementary advantages and disadvantages of eachmode raises the possibility of the communication networks containing both full duplex and half duplex nodes In this thesis a network consisting a source and a destination that are connected with two non interfering relays in adiamond structure is proposed with one relay being full duplex while the other one being restricted to operate in half duplexmode hence the name hybrid diamond relay channel is used to refer to this network We study the DMT of hybrid diamondrelay channel when all nodes are equipped with single antenna and have local receive channel state information CSI Furthermore all the channels are assumed to be quasi static flat fading with independent Rayleigh distributions DMT cut set upper bound for this network is formulated as an optimization problem when the half duplex relay listens for a fixedfraction of the codeword length and transmits during the remaining part This optimization problem is then divided to foursub optimization problems and the DMT cut set upper bound is derived as the minimum of the four solutions It is shownthat this upper bound is achievable by the quantize map and forward QMF strategy The DMT of static QMF SQMF and dynamic QMF DQMF strategies with optimal listen transmit scheduling are formulated as two optimization problems which are then solved analytically in some specific regimes and evaluated numerically in the remaining ones Finally bycomparing the obtained results with the DMT of SQMF strategy in the equivalent half duplex network and the DMT ofequivalent full duplex network more light is shed on the effect of duplexing and dynamic static scheduling on the DMT ofdiamond relay channels Key Words Diversity Multiplexing Tradeoff Rayleigh Fading Diamond Relay Channel Half Full Duplex Quantize Map and Forward
