AbstractSuccession planning as a strategic mechanism for the continuity of organizations over timeis important This planning involves the training of key managers in line with strategicplans of the organization in a way that it enhances the ability of managers to improveenvironmental permeability and organizational maturity The purpose of this study is toanalyze and develop a successional program for managers at the Isfahan University ofTechnology using descriptive survey method The statistical population of this researchconsists of experts and holders of organizational posts in different units of IsfahanUniversity of Technology during the last 10 years from 1387 to 1397 The statistical dataof this research is gathered via enumeration First through an extensive review of the research literature and consultation with thesupervisors and key experts the main components of succession planning wereinvestigated and extracted Then using the questionnaire the necessary information forthis research has been gathered The software programs that have been used throughoutthis study were SPSS Statistics 17 0 and Microsoft Excel In order to assess the reliabilityand validity of the questionnaire 40 pre test samples were completed and the Cronbach salpha coefficient and K M O statistics were calculated Furthermore in order to analyze the internal structure of the questionnaire and to discoverthe related patterns in variables relationships and indexation of factor analysis and finallyto answer the research hypotheses non parametric tests of Mann Whitney and Kruskal Wallis besides the comparisons tests including pairwise single sample and clusteringtests were used In the study of the six research hypotheses five indicators of strategies ground factors individual factors process factors and facilitating and inhibiting factors were firstidentified then revealed appropriate and finally assessed to have different effects Theresults indicate that the status of the indicators is below the acceptable level and there is asignificant difference between the desired and the existing situation in all dimensions Theranking of the mean of factors suggests that the tendency and commitment of theorganization to meritocracy have the highest rank while the personal relationship has thelowest rank in an optimal situation However in the current situation the personalrelationship has the highest rank and continuous evaluation of the succession system hasthe lowest rank among the identified factors The identification of the skills knowledge and competencies that are required byuniversity s administrators in the future the discovery of talents besides the formation of atalent reservoir and the training improvement and empowerment of human resources arethe most important factors in the three dimensional index of strategy which wereindicated crucial based on the results of the study
