111 Laboratory study of the production and distribution of wormholes in a rock reservoir sample by acid and surfactant gel mixing in a glass micro model Maryam Yeganehdoost m yeganehdoost@ce iut ac ir Date of submission 2019 9 18 Department of Chemical Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan Iran Degree M Sc Language PersianSupervisor M Haghshenasfard haghshenas@cc iut ac ir A Khazali arkhazali@cc iut ac irAbstractThe increasing global demand for oil and its products and the decline in natural production from oil tanks ultimately the rise in oil prices in recent years have led to an increasing attention to better use of these resources One of the ways to increase the productivity of wells is chemical methods drift with polymers surfactants foams etc Self biodegradable acid injection based on surfactant viscoelastic is an effective method for acidbiodegradation in lesser regions The surfactant based self biodegradable micelles have the ability to change fromspherical to rods by increasing pH due to the solubility of the nucleus in the acid resulting in a sudden increase influid viscosity The increase in viscosity acts as a temporary barrier within the peritraumatic area and diverts the acidto the lesser areas Micromodels are used as an in vitro harvesting instrument to determine the mechanisms involvedin the harvesting process Micromodels are used in porous media for the purpose of better understanding of theprocesses of uptake and direct observation of fluid flow The prominent feature of this tool is to determine theproduction mechanisms during injection along with the measurement of oil recovery by analyzing the images takenduring the harvesting process In this study the distribution and shape of wormholes from HCl acid injection were compared with a mixture of thisacid and a surfactant agent as compared to a reservoir sample in a glass micromodel for different acid injectionrates The amount of acid permeation length and the solubility pattern for acid and acid mixtures and the surfactantagent are also compared The results of the comparisons show that the wormholes penetrate deeper into the lessertraverse area than the HCl using SDVA acid Keywords Formation damage wormhole acid deflection micromodel
