124 Green synthesis of poly vinyl alcohol chitosan and alginate nanocomposites having layered double hydroxide and silver nanoparticles Study of adsorption of methyl orange and antibacterial and bioactivity behaviors Masoud Hatami m hatami1989@gmail com masoud hatami@ch iut ac ir December 2019 Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 I R Iran Degree Ph D Language FarsiSupervisors Prof Shadpour MallakpourEmail mallak@iut ac ir mallak777@yahoo comAbstract Nowadays researchers try to use materials and methods which not only decrease the pollution of theenvironment but also are low cost and have high efficiency Hence this research focused on the green synthesis ofbio polymeric nanocomposites NCs and their applications For this aim in the first study we used the greensynthesis of layered double hydroxide LDH Fe3O4 hybrid and its poly vinyl alcohol PVA NCs Also in orderto decrease the solubility of PVA these NC compounds were crosslinked with glutaraldehyde Properties andstructure of the prepared samples were characterized by different spectroscopic analyses After that the obtainedNC compounds were examined as a low cost adsorbent to eliminate the poisonous methyl orange dye from aqueoustest solution The observed results showed that the removal efficiency of the adsorbent was affected by differentparameters including pH pH 6 reaction time 420 min temperature 25 oC and concentration of bothadsorbent 100 mg and adsorbate 100 mg L and the maximum adsorption capacity of this adsorbent was 28 86mg g Also the adsorbent was easily separated from the aqueous solution with three steps reusability In the secondstudy the green fabricated LDH Ag hybrid was examined for the fabrication of NC compounds based on thechitosan matrix After the characterization of NC compounds they were examined for the inhibition of Escherichiacoli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria The obtained results showed the high antibacterial performance of theseNCs for both examined bacteria Also the antibacterial test indicated that the stability of samples was differentagainst each bacteria and they were stable against Escherichia coli for 2 days and Staphylococcus aureus for 3days In the third study the silver nanoparticles AgNPs were fabricated in the presence of non toxic low cost and eco friendly Quercus branti plant The obtained results indicated that the efficiency of fabricated AgNPs wasdifferent in the presence of different conditions such as pH reaction time temperature and concentration ofAgNPs The obtained results confirmed the AgNPs with face centered cubic structure and spherical shaped with amean particle size of 13 nm Then these AgNPs were homogeneously incorporated into the matrix of differentpolymers including PVA chitosan and alginate to form bio polymeric NCs and they were examined inantibacterial field The antibacterial results showed that with the addition of 1 wt of AgNPs in the matrix of eachpolymer their antibacterial performance was effectively increased Moreover because of the high mechanicalbehavior of PVA bio NC it was selected and its bioactivity was examined in simulated body fluid with pH 7 4 The observed results indicated the growth of hydroxyapatite on the surface of examined PVA NC after 30 days Keywords Layered double hydroxide Ag nanoparticle Nanocomposite Poly vinyl alcohol Chitosan Sodiumalginate Methyl orange Antibacterial Bioactivity
