Abstract In this thesis we investigate the e ect of topology of small world networks on pop ulation evolution e population evolves according to the Fermi imitation rule intwo ways by considering two strategies cooperation as the resident and defection asthe mutant and de ning a payo matrix e evolution process was simulated withPython programming language In the rst method the selected node imitates theneighbor with highest score with the Fermi probability and we observe that for all val ues of the rewiring probability and the size of network and small average degrees twostrategies eventually coexist But as the average degree increases the xation proba bility increases In this method the rewiring probability and the size of network has noe ect on the population evolution In the second method the selected node imitatesa random neighbor with the Fermi probability and we observe that as the rewiringprobability or the average degree increases the xation probability and the xationtime of defection decrease However by increasing the size of network the xationprobability also increases In this method no coexistence is observed and all realiza tions necessarily lead to xation or extinction of defection Key words Evolutionary graph theory Evolutionary game theory Evolutionary dynamic small world graph random graph scale free graph prisoner s dilemma game imitation t ness xation
