A virtual reality based model for managing smart industries in digital twin according to human factors Ashkan Ghavami ashkan ghavami@ec iut ac ir Jul 2020 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Under supervison of Dr HashemiAbstract One of the most important issues in Industrial Revolution 4 0 is smart manufacturing in such a way that the physical envi ronment converges with the virtual environment in order to monitor and control the physical environment through the virtualenvironment One of the solutions to achieve this goal is the digital twin Various architectures have been presented to imple ment digital twin which the latest and most reputable of them based on the existing requirements is a ve layer architecture The ve layer architecture includes the physical layer virtual layer service layer communication layer and the datalayer Since control and monitoring are performed in the virtual environment the most important part of the digital twin simplementation will be the virtual environment Therefore this study focuses on the virtual layer in digital twin and architectsthe virtual environment and the user interface with a new perspective To simulate the virtual environment based on this idea virtual reality is used to make an abstract environment also to display the physical environment s information to the user in thevirtual environment using virtualized models with appropriated visual e ects as a suitable alternative for numbers and charts In digital twin the user is placed in the virtual environment through which he monitors and controls the physical envi ronment in the virtual environment There are multiple human factors such as user awareness of the environment and userworkload are important parameters that should be considered in creating a virtual environment Therefore this research byvirtualizing information using graphical models while increasing the user s awareness of the current state of the system canalso reduce the user s workload by providing a suitable user interface To evaluate the proposed method a digital twin based onthe ve layer architecture is implemented which is a combination of various technologies including communication protocols fog computing virtual reality and the internet of things as introduced in the literature Key Words Digital Twin Virtual Reality User Interface
