Spectral and Energy Ef ciency of Massive MIMO Systems in Presence of Channel Estimation Mohammad Hadi Sadraei mh sadraei@ec iut ac ir 2021 February 3 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranSupervisor Dr Mohammad Sadegh Fazel fazel@iut ac irAdvisor Dr Ali Mohammad Doost Hoseini Department Graduate Program Coordinator Dr Behzad Nazari Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranAbstractIn this thesis spectral and energy ef ciencies SE and EE of uplink in multi cell massive multiple input multiple output MIMO systems are studied for correlated Rician channel It is assumed that the channel is estimatedby pilot transmission and applying minimum mean square error MMSE least squares LS and element wiseMMSE EWMMSE methods SE analysis is intricate in presence of LS and EWMMSE channel estimatorsbecause the signal and interference parts are cross correlated In this thesis we use information theory to calculateinstantaneous SE of maximum ratio combining MRC detector After that some closed form approximations areproposed for ergodic SE which are close enough to Monte Carlo simulation results and also higher than the lowerbounds in previous works In numerical results curves related to MMSE estimation are the highest and the lowestis seen for LS EE is also studied based on derived SE and total power consumption In numerical results EE isincreasing in terms of the number of base station BS antennas at rst in the same order for LS EWMMSE andMMSE as observed in SE results The curves start falling such that EE becomes the lowest for MMSE estimationin massive antennas Key WordsMassive MIMO Spectral Ef ciency Energy Ef ciency Channel Estimation MRC DetectionIntroductionHigher SE with a reliable transmission is an obvious requirement in wireless communicationsystems since the available spectrum is saturated Andrews et al 2014 massive MIMO tech nique is one of the solutions for improving SE in which the BS in each cell is equipped with alarge number of antennas compared to active users Larsson et al 2014 In these systems lin ear processing at BS can provide an achievable sum rate close to optimal non linear solutionslike maximum likelihood detection in uplink and dirty paper coding in downlink Bj rnsonet al 2016 To the best of our knowledge SE analysis for correlated Rician channel and imperfect CSIis presented only in zdogan et al 2019 In that work lower bounds are provided forthe signal to interference plus noise ratio SINR which are based on the mean of the effectivechannel i e the cascade of the channel and the detector Bj rnson et al 2017 In this view 1
