In this research, with the aim of removing penicillin from aqueous solutions, a biochar adsorbent based on sparrow tongue tree wood waste was synthesized and its structural properties were investigated through FT-IR, FE-SEM, EDS, zeta potential and nitrogen adsorption-desorption tests; so that based on the nitrogen adsorption-desorption results, the specific surface area of the adsorbent was determined to be 306.07 m2/g and its average pore size was 1.32 nm. In the next step, the effect of parameters such as pH, contact time, initial penicillin concentration and temperature on the adsorption process was evaluated, and the results showed that at pH 5 and with the consumption of 1 gram of adsorbent, the highest removal efficiency (96%) was achieved from the real solution; while the equilibrium time of this process was 40 minutes. On the other hand, the adsorption kinetic data showed the best agreement with the pseudo-second-order model and the isotherm data with the Langmuir model, and accordingly, the maximum adsorption capacity under optimal conditions was calculated to be 3.77 mg/g. Also, the study of the possibility of recovering the adsorbent showed that the use of sodium hydroxide hydrochloric acid solution prevents the decrease in the adsorption percentage. Finally, considering the biocompatibility and economic efficiency of this adsorbent, it can be considered a practical option for the removal of penicillin from aqueous environments.
