Abstract In this work by using a hybrid yam a cotton polyester fabric was producedwhich has cotton like handle A high shrink PET multifilament yam has been used toproduce cotton hybrid yams Three types of hybrid yam were namely core spun jettntenningled and 2 ply yarn In the core spun spinning the high shrink PET wasplaced in the center of the cotton fiber flow In the other hybrid yams a 100 cottonyam was either intermingled or twisted with the high PET yam These yafQs were inthe form of 2 ply yams intenningled yarn and core spun yam The 2 ply intenningled and core spun yams were produced using a two for one system intenningling jet and ring frame respectively These yams were uS ed weft yam in aswoven structure separately Furthennore for determining the effect of fabric designon yam shrinkage the plain and twill weaves were taken into consideration Twodifferent thread densities were used for warp yarns while the thread density of weftwas constant After heat treatment on raw fabric samples various properties such asbending pilling handle strength and thickness were measured to spot the differencebetween the samples in raw and heated fabrics For studying the influence of yamstructure on shrinkage some microscopic images were captured from cross section ofyam for two samples The results show that only in core spun yams the fabric pillingincreased due to heat treatment After heat tre atment the thickness of samplesincreasedtoo Investigation on variation of bending length indicates that the flexibilityof fabric is increased Also for most of samples strength is decreasedand elongationincreased inversely It was shown in assessment of fabric appearance after heattreatment that there were irregular effects on fabric surface for jet samples whileregular effects were observed for 2 ply samples t llJ If V I I
