AbstractSarcheshmeh copper mine is one of the largest open pit mines in the world operatingthrough conventional ore grade control using wagon drill blast holes located at thecenter of the blocks Grade flactuations of the mined ore delivered to the mineralprocessing plant remains an important challenge in achieving permissible efficiencyand ore recovery in daily practices at this mine Such conventional ore controlpractices could potentially result in significant ore grade flactuations harmful formine output and performance Therefore the current research was aimed at studyingthe feasibility of applying advanced geostatistical ore block grades estimations inorder to reduce the estimation variances The data sets available to this study includes exploratory drill holes plus wagon drillblast holes Through statistical hypothetical tests and analysis such as t student andFisher inference tests it was found that both of data sets could be combined to formone random sample data set from deposit In order to obtain high precisiongeostatistical estimations the spatial correlation along different directions with threedimensional 30 degrees intervals were investigated using principal componentmethod to determine 3 D anisotropic ellipsoid It was shown that the major geometricanisotropic axes have 150 100 and 30 meters spatial dependencies respectivelyoptimized using cross validation method By applying 3 D ordinary krigingestimations with optimum search radii the ore block grades from one specific run ofmine ore delivered to mineral processing plant were estimated The Exploited oreblocks from five different stopes at 2450 mine level were estimated and the weightedaverage of the combined ore were computed By comparing the estimated ore gradesand the grades of the ore consumed by mineral processing plant it was shown thatthe relative difference between them were reduced to 3 7 percent compared with 13 5 percent errors using conventional estimation methods Through ore block grade estimation variances the maximum and minimum estimation limits at 95 confidence level were found to be 0 99 and 1 09 Cu percent respectively Finally it is proposed to use all previously known and valid exploratory and exploited ore block grades data in estimating ore blocks to be delivered to the mineral processing plant in order to r educe the tensions between different mine sectors in addition to the improvements on recovery and efficiency of mining practices at Sarcheshmeh copper deposit d J 0 0#1 V U fW lifJ Lf IJ 1 v J
