AbstractPotato is a major crop of Harnedan province but shortage of water is important in itsproduction To investigate yield and water use efficiency WUE of potato with trickle T Tape and furrow irrigations an experiment was performed at Hamedan AgricultUralResearch Center Ekbatan station in 2004 The experiment was split plot in completerandomized blocks design with 3 leve sof irrigation water amount as main factor 75 100 and 125 of cumulative evaporation from Class A pan and subfactors ofirrigation method tapes in the middle of furrow ridge on soil surface tapes in themiddle of furrow ridge at the depth of 5 cm tapes on the sides of furrow ridge on soilsurface and furrow irrigation with 3 replications The results indicated that regardlessto irrigation method the maximum yield of potato 32 51 ton ha was achieved inirrigation water treatment of 125 and the minimum yield of potato 19 33 ton ha wasachieved in irrigation water treatment of 75 The least yield 21 35 ton ha wasobtained in furrow irrigation and the highest yield 28 91 ton ha was belonged to tapeirrigation with tapes located at the depth of 5 cm The effect of irrigation method onWUE was significant P O Ol The highest WUE 4 68 kg m3 was belonged to tapeirrigation with tapes at the depth of 5 cm and the lowest WUE 3 32 kg m3 wasbelonged to furrow irrigation Tape irrigation caused an increase of 41 in WUE ascompared to furrow irrigation The difference in WUE between 75 and 100 irrigation water treatments was not significant The highest WUE 4 49 kg m3 wasachieved in irrigation water treatment of 125 The least percent of tubers smaller than35 rnrn 13 80 was obtained in tape irrigation method with tapes at the depth of 5 cniand the highest loss 21 46 was obtained in tape irrigation method with tapes on thesoil surface and sides of the ridge The highest amount of tuber production 60 41 inmarketable size tubers larger than 5 mm was obtained in tape irrigation method withtapes at the depth of 5 cm As the irrigation water increased percentage of tubers largerthan 55 mm increased The effect of irrigation method on reducing sugars dry matterand specific gravity of tubers and also the effect of irrigation water amounts on drymatter was not significant but with reduction of irrigation water the specific gravity oftubers and reducing sugafS of potato was increased In irrigation water treatments of75 and 100 the arnoirnts of reducing sugars were 138 042 and 112 167 mg per 10 gflour that indicates a 23 increase The amount of reducing sugars in treatment 125 was 107 375 mg per 10 g which is 4 27 less than treatment 100 It is suggested touse tape irrigation method with tapes located at the depth of 5 cm from soil surface andin the middle of the ridges with irrigation water amount of 125 for producing potato j A t U V i i t J I
