Abstract World aquaculture production except for plant aquaculture has increased from 2 6million tons in 1970 to 40 million tons in 2002 The mean annual increase of 16 1 percentin production of coldwater and warmwater fishes and shrimp reported fi om 1993 to 2003 inIslamic Republic of Iran Regarding this growth the production of these products in thiscountry increased from 22 000 tons in 1993 to 90 000 tons in 2003 The aquaculturedevelopment plan in Iran has set a target of 180 000 tons of production for 2021 One of theeconomic dimensions of aquaculture is its total factor productivity TFP since byincreasing TFP the profitability of it will increase The purpose of this study is to measure the TFP of fish farms and the factors affecting it in the two provinces of Isfahan andChahar Mohale e Bakhtiyari The data used in this study is of a survey type and werecollected by interviewing and filling questionnaires from 140 farmers For the analysis theregressions of the Cobb Douglas production function type was used The regression resultsshowed that the TFP of all kinds of fish farms were positive and statistically significant The TFP of warm water fish farms was larger than coldwater ones Also in the coldwaterfarm TFP of two purpose farms was larger than the single purpose ones The level offormal education of the employers had no impacts on the TFP but experience of employershad positive effect Index of fish food productivity the ratio of value of fish sale to fishfood cost showed positive effect on TFP ft Il Jf VI t
