AbstractThe main purpose of this research consists of evaluating the buoyancy force effects onnon reacting flows The existing code programmed to solve incompressible flows hasbeen completed by suitable subroutines in order to deal with this usually neglected force The flow inside a closed cavity has been used as a first example to validate the code obtaining a good consistency with others results The case study of partition walls in closed cavities and the corresponding effect of varyingtheir height and mutual distance was investigated The results showed an increase of theNusselt number with respect to the increment of both parameters the influence of thepartitions height showing a more pronounced effect compared to the effects of varyingmutual distance is easily explained by the net increase of the heat transfer coefficientfollowed The effect of the buoyancy force on the flow through a vertical channel with asuddenexpanding outlet section was the next problem investigated The results point out that by increasing the buoyancy force both the drag coefficient andthe Nusselt number on the downstream wall increase but the separation point lengthdecreases In a last example the effect of the channel inclination angle relative to thevertical has been examined on the heat transfer parameters with buoyancy forceconsidered The analysis showed that by increasing the inclination angle with respect to thevertical the buoyancy force decreases 1I Lf e
