AbstractAt the present time waists of polyethylene terephthalate PET and polypropylene PP is increasing due to their consuming developments One method of improvingproperties of recycled PET and PP is carried out by blending them togethe r Thesetwo polymers are immiscible and form two phase system Due to weak adhesion atthe inter phase layer and large size of the dispersed particles mechanical propertiesare badly affected The use of compatibilizers can improve the mechanical propertiesof such blends The main aim of this research work was to produce PP grafted maleicanhydride PP g MA compatibilizer by solid state copolymerization Influence ofparameters such as amount of maleic anhydride MA benzyl peroxide initiator and temperature were investigated during synthesis of PP g MA The graftingefficiency of the synthesized PP g MA was studied in a blend of 70 30 compositionof PETIPP The corilpatebilized blends were characterized by the followingtechniques optical microscopy OM scanning electron microscopy SEM energydispersive x ray spectrum EDAX and differential scanning calorimeter Underexperimental conditions carried out the results show that PET is matrix Optical andelectron microscopical analysis show better dispersion of PET for use of 10 compatibilizer DSC results show that application of compatibilizer has reduced themelting point of PET in the blend 4 J IIi A L lVJ Jr W J
