AbstractIn this thesis turbulent flows around tube bundles are studied by Large Eddy Simulation LES method using a parallel coupled Navier Stokes Solver on Non orthogonal grids Governing equations are discritized on a non orthogonalgrid with a collocated variablearrangement and employing a finite volume second order scheme The momentuminterpolation method is used for the pressureequation For turbulence modeling the Large Eddy Simulation with Smagorinsky and a mixedmodel is used The interaction between small and large eddies are accounted for using acombined Smagorinsky and scale similarity model The mixed model predicts improvedresults for the flow characteristicsand tube forces The solver parallelization is performed using a load balanced domain decompositiontechnique The parallel efficiency and speed up of the developed solver are very high Using this efficient parallel solver the detailed structure of the turbulent flow and the vortex sheddingphenomenaare studied for eachtube rows The achievements of the present work are as follows development of a new parallel implici copled Navier Stokes solver using a collocated variable arrangementas well as the study of parallel efficiency of the solver under different situations in addition numerical results for large eddy simulation of flow in tube bundles are extensively studied and flow characteristicsare reported t J I F I yl t iJ v II A J
