Abstract The increasing application of weft knitted fabrics in industrial and clothing fields hasnecessitatedthe investigation of geometrical and surface properties of this type of textilefabric Identification of the main parameters of fabrics understanding of complexbehaviors of the fabric after different relaxation processesand elimination of defects suchas s Ta as een fue ma n a m a e esea e s n e a s a a a m n of researchworks has been carried out on these aspects of weft knitted fabrics These have resulted in production of acceptable knitted fabrics from both qualitative and quantitative of view Spirality is a phenomenonwhich renders the fabric unusable Yam twist liveliness is the reason for spiraled fabrics In addition to investigation of fabric spirality other parameters such as loop length cover factor and shape factor have also beenstudied Yams which are defined as elestomers causes smaller fabric deformation in comparison to ordinary yams The use of elastic yams such as Lycra is usual in plating technique used in construction of knitted fabrics In this study cotton yam and cotton Lycra have beenused Fabric properties are usually measured manually Objective evaluation techniques such as image processing methods have also been employed for investigation of knitted fabric In this study image processing algorithms were used to determine the effect of various machine adjustments on fabric parameters All the samples were produced on a single jersey circular knitting machine Adjustments such as knitting speed fabrictension yam input tension feeding pulley diameter and knock over depth were chosenand their effects on fabric parameters were compared The image processing technique shows better results than manual one The desirability of cotton fabric is better than thecotton Lycra fabric Mostly the spirality angle is in acceptablerange This study was carried out using MA TLAB software and its image processingtoolbox as well as developed algorithms In order to identify of statistical tests SPSSsoftware was used to carry out the analysis of results using regression analysis ofvariance and design and analysis of experiments methods In order to select the bettermethod AHP method from the MADM models with the help of Expert Choice software is employed m I f u p li ij If I
