AbstractLignocelluloses are cheap and abundant raw materials used for ethanol production Thenatural structure of these materials make them very difficult to be assimilated bymicroorganisms Therefore they must be first hydrolyzed to fermentable sugars There area number of publications available on fermentation of these materials with microorganisms Rice straw is a waste lignocellulose that can be use for ethanol production Separatehydrolysis and fermentation SHF process on rice straw with Mucor indicus Rhizopusoryzae were not detected in the literature The goal of this study was investigation on yieldof ethanol production from rice straw with M indicus R oryzae S cerevisiae as thereference yeast Dilute acid hydrolysis process was applied on the straw followed bybraking of celluloses bonds of the product through an enzymatic hydrolysis with cellulase glucosidase which resulted in fermentable sugars The sugars were then converted toethanol by anaerobic fermentation process The results show that the yield of mentionedfungi and S cerevisiae are very close Produced biomass of these fungi are used for chitin chitosan production So they are useful for ethanol production Average ethanolproduced from IOOOKgs rice straw through SHF process using these fungi is about 139 ofliters 1 iL WIU o l J f V IJI I
