ABSTRACT Chitin is a major biopolymer found in crustaceous shells and in cell wall of fungi Chitincan be fabricated in to many desired forms such as fibres that are very important in productionof wound dressings In this project possibility of solving chitin in the mixture of DMAc LiCL and effects ofchitin pretreatments on the dissolution was examined Most suitable concentrations of chitin inspinning dope for wet spinning and dry jet wet spinning methods were eventually found byexpriments Various wet spinning conditions specially cogulation bath contents concentrate wereexamined and optimum conditions were obtained Chitin fibres were also spun by dry jet wetspinning methods in those obtained optimum conditions for wet spinning and the effect ofdifferent Air gap distances were examined for the later method The morphological structure and physical properties such as strength elongation atbreak and crystalinity were studied by FTIR SEM X ray diffraction methods Finally optimum conditions for the spinning of chitin fibres were presented
