AbstractThe main purpose of this thesis is to analyze the effect of globalization tradeliberalization on poverty in Iran Two indicators import tariff and the ratio of totaltrade to GDP are applied to find the globalization effect In addition to the nation sGini coefficient both urban and rural Gini coefficient are used as poverty indices tocompare the trade liberalization effect on Iranian economy Furthermore we applydomestic polices the ratio of government expenditure to GDP and the ratio of totalexpenditure on education to GDP to compare their effects on poverty with tradeliberalization polices Applying time series data 1968 2003 and the OLS method it is found thatimproving trade ratio or reducing tariff rate decreases the country poverty andurban poverty However domestic polices effects are more than globalizationeffects
