AbstractRub event occurs in rotating machinery when the vibration amplitude grows due to increasof unbalances and then rotor impacts to seal Motion of rotor with rub may leads toinstability conditions Due to generation of local heat in contact point the analysis of rubbroblem involves with heat transfer problem In this research the rub problem has beenmodelled using finite element method and rotor speed zones for stability or instability hasbeen calculated In this model the seal ring exerts a normal force to the rotor as a linearspring The tangential force can be calculated by product the normal force to frictioncoefficient The thermal bow is represented by an equivalent bending moment distributionand enters to the vibrational equation The termal distribution is calculated by 3D finiteelement model In dynamic analysis the rotor shaft is modelled by 3D beam element Thealgorithm of problem is a transient solution and in each time steps includes both dyndmicand heat transfer solutions Both this two solutions have been validated seperately bycomparison with results of ANSYS commercial package Isfahan University of Technology Department of Mechanical Engineering Stability analysis of rotor with asymmetric heat distribution due to rub A Thesis Submitted in partial fulfillment of requirements For the degree of Master of Science By Ehsan Koucheki Varnousfaderani
